He might be a good actor, but it seems Wesley Snipes is not too good a citizen. For Snipes, it seems doesn't believe in payinf taxes religiously. The actor was charged with tax evasion charges and got bailed out after depositing a whopping $1 million dollars.
The federal courthouse in Ocala, Florida acused him of hiring the services of an accounting firm known for filing false returns in exchange for 20 percent of all the money refunded. In addition to this he was also charged with failing to file any tax returns from 1999 to 2004.
However, Snipes denied any such charges and pleaded not guilty to charges he fraudulently claimed refunds totaling nearly $12 million dollars from taxes he paid in 1996 and 1997. "I wanna say thanks to everybody, thanks to all of the fans out there for showing support. I look forward to clearing my name and resolving this issue post-haste," he added.
Snipes is currently shooting in Namibia for cowboy movie Gallowwalker. He faces up to 16 years in prison if convicted on the charges. "Mr. Snipes left America to begin filming Gallowwalker long before this indictment was returned. We want to make it clear that he did not avoid returning to the United States. He's always been ready to return and he did not flee," his attorney added.
